I buy the natural sea sponges from my local pet store for my crabs, and they love them. They even carry them around their cage. The package comes with 3 small sponges. I have only used one out of this package, for my main tank. Recently, my smallest hermie molted(Yay! *first molter dance*), and I put the other two in her ISO tank. One in the salt water dish, the other in the fresh water dish. I was cleaning the sponges, and I noticed something hard in one of the sponges. Only one, though. It was an abalone shell...I did some investigating on the web, but could find nothing talking about hermies with abalone...
Is this a source of calcium, or protien for the hermies? I'm not sure, but I'm wondering, because I left the abalone shell in there. I just want to know if this may
hurt my hermie. I'm doubting it, but if it will/is, I would like to know...
immedietly!
thanks.
UPDATED
On a site(not relating to hermies whatsoever) it states
abalone shell is made of thousands of layers of calcium carbonate
. Nonetheless, is this healthy and safe for my hermies? Thanks, you guys.[/b]
