More than just C. perlatus on Christmas Island
It seems that besides the strawberry hermit crabs, C. rugosus (rug) and C. brevimanus (indo) are also native to Christmas Island! Although it is considered Australian territory, it is very far away from Australia and is actually closer to Indonesia. I don't think there are any C. variabilis (aussies) on the island.

Yepper, and it has been questioned how can it be (or why) considered part of Australia? I do not remember hearing of any Aussie hermies being found, but that doesn't exactly mean there aren't any. A couple years ago I was writing to a crabber from Indonesia, quite interesting pictures she shared then too.
