the anual hermit crab convention at VA beach

Post by hermie_lover3542 »

Hi everyone! This year I am going to the hermit crab convention in Virginia bsach! I was wondering if anyone had expierience with it, has been there, or even heard anything about it. I was also wondering how stressful this is on the crabs? I plan on entering one of my exotics in the beauty pagent and maybe the race. Also if you guys ( meaning the admins of hcp) would like me to I could probaly take down hermit crab care sheets for your website to help those hundreds of crabbers understand these beautiful pets more :)

It will be stressful for them. It is a new environment, smells, sounds, and an uncontrolled environment compared what they are use to since living with you. This as well as the almost constant movement from being carried around from place to place.
From the YouTube I became a bit uncomfortable. Seems some things still haven't changed. Yellow, green, and black lid critter carriers. A young boy standing on the front side of a critter carrier with what appeared to be Jumbo hermies within it. The poop little hermies how they scurried out of the circle for what is called racing. :( Now that reminded me of a hermie "Run for your life" situation. :|

Some of it (to me) seems a bit stressful but that is why we should also help them with care sheets to help them understand these pets more than wire cages and painted shells. I was happy when I saw they had somethin like this to give more hermies a chance.

I agree with the care sheets by all means! (Wai) But you mentioned:

When considering, one should look at the whole picture as in everything the hours will consist of. It is not as though the hermies will be subjected to uncontrolled conditions for 30 minutes to an hour, this event is for the day.

I'm thinking they would frown on ever letting someone set up an information type tent there. Since one would have to advise against a lot of the things I saw in the video clip. such as the critter carriers, the painted shells and what i'm having to guess is calci sand in those critter carriers.

Hmmm, you guys are right, it's just I really want to educate people down there about these little guys :( Not to get off track but I helped my friends little sister with the cute little critters. Oh just random thing for the um ''beauty pageant'' I was going to maybe take a blueberry or straw down and put him in a tank with pink play sand and somehow stick little green leaves on his shell to make him a "strawberry''. But I was also typing fast and didn't mean to say my exotic in the race I was just thinking about it and my fingers typed it -.- So I'm not entering him in that because I saw that like 50-60 people crouded around a table shouting! Why is it that people don't think of the hermie crab or have some common sense that shouting will make it go faster? *sigh*
