Crabbie does absolutely NOTHING

Post by jae »

I have had crabs for awhile and they have always been active at least most of the time. I have recently been reduced to one crab because of old age death of his roommates. THis one we have left actually is about a year old and I have no clue how he survives. He never leaves his little house which is a collapsable pet bowl that is made of material..I never see him eat or drink and everyday that I check on him I expect him to be dead but lo and behold he surprises me every time. I do know I need to get more sand but for everything else I am good. I just dont understand it. All my other crabs used to like bits of lettuce and such. I put a pc in there and nothing..it dries up overnight and has never been touched.
I guess I am just lost lol
I cant get a picture of his cage right now but its a 5 gallon glass tank with many shells and his housing and water and food dish. I stopped buying play toys and such because he never moves.
No clue...Is there something I can do?

Well I would definitely suggest reading through the crab care section on this website just to go over your care practices and make sure you are meeting his needs. There is not quite enough info in your post to give you much advice with regards to your care, but one strong recommendation I will make is to get him a companion. Hermit crabs are not solitary animals, in fact in the wild they live in groups of over a hundred in some cases. They have been known to become quite inactive when kept as a solitary pet.

Answer the questions from rule #6 and we'll see if we can identify what went wrong.

Lettuce has very little nutritional value.
