moulting crab and gnats
Hi there. I have 3 crabs and 1 has been moulting for the past couple of weeks. I think everything is fine with him, I have gotten alot of advice from you all. The problem is that I noticed gnats in the tank yesterday. I have been spot cleaning and practically removed 1/2 inch off the top of their sand. Also, I read on here that it may help to leave the lid open for a period of time and put some vinegar in a cup on top of the tank. I am going to get some vinegar today. Is there anything else I should do? I think the sand ought to be changed out, but I cannot disturb my moulter. Thanks.

I would too refrain from disturbing the moulter. Below was CrabbyJo's response to a similar case:

If you cover it with saran wrap and put a hole in the top, the bugs can get in but won't easily get out and will drown in the vinegar water that attracted them. You may want to put out two or three dishes around the tank.
