3 molters... a little advice...

I have recently changed my substrate from reptile litter to bed-a-best. since then i have had 3 hermies go under and molt. since i dont have an iso tank set up (bad i know!!) canb i just leave them alone? i have a totaly of 9 hermies in a ten gallon (a little crowded but im setting up a five gallon rite now for my jumbo and 2 mediums) and only 4 are not burried. should i set up the 5 gallon and put the non molters in that?

The best and most cost affective to use for hermies is play sand. Make sure it does not have a smell to it. In all honesty I have never moved any of my hermies to ISO after a moult. I have 14 now in a 55 gallon tank. I only moved the one that one of the others stole their shell, to ISO.

do you not have any sand? it's good to have sand too. so the crab can choose what they like best.

there's some members in here that have half play sand half what you have because different crabs like different substrates. i haven't taken any of mine out when they start to molt. i've had 3 successful molts, with one under for his 2nd molt right now. one suggestion would be, if you notice that other crabs have dug or are digging where your molters are, cut a 2 liter bottle in about half and push it down a little over the area (with the opening up and no lid obviously). that'll help protect the molter.

that's good!! Molts drive me nuts! Sometimes they ust SITE THERE doing nothing for 3 weeks! Then they molt. I mean, hello! Your wonderful nervous owner is waiting on you!!!! lol

I hear you there. I have 9 that are buried right now. 1 has been down since April 1st. 1 just went down on May 7th for its 2nd moult. 1 went down May 3rd. 1 went down on April 23rd. 1 went down April 21st after going down and up 3 other times. 1 has been up and down looking for its SPOT to moult the 2nd time. 1 went down May 9th for its 2nd time. 1 has been down since April 17th. 1 more is still looking and thinking about moulting. They are driving me crazy!!!

i have 32 down right now, one came up a few weeks ago. Another is still looking for a place to molt. For all i know, he might be burried.

Porr Qwerty is all alone. I am buying some more crabs tomorrow. I am hoping for 2 more.
