Yes interesting, I have considered buying some from here http://www.glassshell.com/ but I don't think a hermit crab would like the see through shell

Yes, this has been around for a few years now. From what I have read so far hermies have not actually willingly moved into this shell in captivity. But in the wild where shells are so scarce they are known to move into garbage (bottle caps, broken bottle tops, etc) just to have some form of shelter over their soft abdomens.

I think its great for study, that is if study means observation. I wouldnt recommend it for a conversation piece. Replicating nature as closely as possible seems the nicest way to do things. I wouldnt like it if someone took my walls and made them glass...I suppose for the studies its ok because the more we learn the better we can care for them. They wouldnt use them if they were that bad right? I feel like im arguing with myself on this subject.

Or made our clothes see through? Sort of defeats when a hermie withdraws into their shell... I wonder how stressed they would become still being able to see out as opposed to feeling they are hiding?
