Re: string
My sugestion is Jute. If a crab gets the little leg joints stuck jute id very fiberous and the fibers will break away. A crab will drop a leg if he thinks its stuck and can not get it out. Jute lasts years. It may not last as long as some of the other types of string but its inexpensive and easy to replace. Ive never had any mold problems with it either and its also holds moisture nicely to spray and add to the humidity.

Re: string
Natural hemp is also an excellent choice. I would stay away from wool.
the crabs will eat the hemp, and it is quite useful for making climbing nets and things.
Make sure you get the natural and not colored, as the binders used to hold the color can be toxic to hermit crabs.

6 hermit crabs - 3 PPs and 3 Equadorians
