Re: what is the friendlyist species of crab ?
I have PPs and Es, and my larger PPs are much calmer with being held than my littler PPs or my little Es. I don't know if it's a species thing or just these particular crabs, but it's my experience.

I think it's really hard to say. I do notice that my E's are more skittish, but I have one that comes out right away, and another that won't come out for anything (it seems like).
I agree with Emma, the medium PP's seem to be more gregarious than the littler guys.

6 hermit crabs - 3 PPs and 3 Equadorians

I don't think friendliness is related to the species of the hermit crab. Each crab is different.

Each hermie has their own personality regardless of their species.
Jadexox, please excuse me for asking but being from Aus. how do your friends have different species of hermies? As well as having Aussie hermies do they also have straws?

I'm curious too, Jade. Are your friends from the US? In Australia, we're literally only able to get the common brown C. variabilis species. I only know of one store in Queensland which sells C. perlatus too (the strawberries).

Re: what is the friendlyist species of crab ?
I Have Purple Pinchers, EEs, Ruggies, And Straws. All In A Variety Of Sizes. My PP can go either way. I Have some really sweet ones and Others are real Pinchers But I put that due to the conditions I Bought them in, A lot of them came from Horrible Pet stores. My EEs And Ruggies Are always Skittish and Fast And Always Pinch So the Only oes A Really Hold Are a Few of My PP And All Of My Straws, All my Straws have been the most sweetest and loving Crabs. They are always up for a stroll and I Never worry about getting a pinch. My Softball size one Monster didnt even scare me he has always been a god guy. So I Can't say its a hundred percent the species but it does seem the crabs that came from the least stressed stores do the best, I did have a severe Pincher who's name was Pincher, after three years and one year in a seperate tank with one crab buddy he now is reformed and not a pincher. Patience is a key I love them all no matter if they pinch or not, I just think about the awful conditions they were put through.

Re: what is the friendlyist species of crab ?
i find my indos to be the most friendly. They are the first to hand feed and will climb up into my hand when i reach into the tank. All of the crabs are friendly however the indos seem to be the most out going without fear or pinching.
