I have only a couple minutes currently to look up the ExoTerra Riverbed sand, but this seems to me fairly expensive? (maybe you have another type?)
http://turtleshack.com/store/exo-terra- ... p-134.html

This claims that it is $19.95 for a 10 pound bag? I pay (on sale) $14.95 for 30 pound of CaribSea, normally $19.95?

That is exactly the stuff I have, and yeah, it's really expensive, but I live in a small town and our resources are few. It's worth the money because the alternate was playsand or desert calci sand.

It may be an obvious suggestion you've probably thought of loads of times, but couldn't you shop on the internet?

I understand, but have you considered asking them if they could order the CaribSea sand? (sugar or select grain only) I know around here there are mom and pop stores who will do this. By them ordering it for you, it also saves you shipping and handling charges. (which with sand can be quite costly!!)
I notice you're from Canada? I have read where a few crabbers were lucky and found it at a Big Al's? And if there is a PetSmart near you, they can also order it.

Canada is a big place, remember, I've never even heard of big Al's. I live in a small town, and in Canada we only need one pet store for a small town like this.
I have thought about shopping online but I don't have the means to do this.
The sand I have is fine, I'm certain of it.

So I haven't been on for a while, but its okay, its a good thing. I haven't had any real problems with my three hermits, Kyuubi discovered the cocohut I added and loves it to death, Ocarina tasted her first coconut and wont leave the food dish! Conch is still MIA (Moulting In Action) I hope. Haven't seen him in maybe... two months. Not too concerned because the tank smells fine. Ocarina has been burying herself right near the last place I saw Conch, in the back of my head I'm concerned she ate him, but that would make the tank smell. right?
Also, I was wondering what kind of toys you all have in your tanks? I have a nice branch in mine and a large chunk of coral and to climbable huts but they don't climb on them much anymore. Any ideas?

I have noticed on this forum that the description of the hermits sizes has been alot like "Tiny, Medium and Jumbo" but how do I know what size my crabs are? How small is tiny? I'm thinking like.... a black ant small. Am I right? Like... { } that long including shell? I'm jsut not sure because all of the crabs at my petstore are the same size (except this one time with this big guy there!!) So I'm not really sure. Could you post some pictures of you holding different sized crabs and what you would call that size, so I have something to compare it to? Thanks so much XD

Tiny - up to the size of an American quarter (which I believe is similar in size to Canadian currency)
Small - up to the size of a golf ball
Medium - up to the size of a mandarin orange (or clementine orange)
Large - up to a baseball
Jumbo - baseball +

That's what I've been told in a few places for crab sizes.

Here is a graph that I think will help, and it goes by how far the hermies legs extend in a normal position:

http://crabbywiki.com/tiki-index.php?pa ... +tank+size

If you would like to print it for your personal use to measure your hermies, try this:
http://crabbywiki.com/img/wiki_up/hermitsizing.jpg

That is the actual size of the chart to measure with when printed. (the one at the first link will print out to that size too)

Oh wow, I didn't expect such a quick reply, thanks everyone. My crabs seems to be all on the small side of medium and are, right now very happy.
I put a waterfall in my tank today, a small ExoTerra waterfall and they're climbing all over it. They love it. I'm posting pictures ASAP, within the next two days. I hope you guys like it, I do! It sounds so lovely and they've been drinking from it. I even added a cuddle bone for them! I put Conch in a makeshift ISO from a 2 litre pop bottle, inside the tank, poor guy. Ocarina is climbing all over the thing and Kyuubi is investigating it from underneath.
By the way they climb up electrical cords, like the one from the waterfall, so now my tank has a firm lid on it.
I love hermitcrabs, but not so much as I do right now.
