Re: Question about recent and current molt
EEks! Thanks CrabbyJo, after re-reading what I wrote it could be taken that I meant my daughter!
Our second hermie 'passing' was due to overheating post molt.
Where I learned the difference between 'air' temp and 'substrate' temps.

Re: Question about recent and current molt
Thank you all. I guess my next step is to see if I have E's or PP's. I'm assuming they are PP's beacause they seem to be the most common sold in pet stores from what I've learned. Any other way to tell the difference (if I ever get a look at them close up any time soon) ?

Here at HCP there is a Species Identifier that you may find of great help when you can get a peek at them.

Re: Question about recent and current molt
You're quite welcome! And if we can be of further help ID'ing your little ones if you can take a picture of their large pincher, eyes, eye stalks and left rear walking leg we should be able to help a bit more.

Re: Question about recent and current molt
Good thing one doesn't need to pay to get the pictures developed. IMO Hermies are hard to take pictures of. Out of 14 pictures sometimes I can use 2-4 of them!
Here's a link with some Photo Taking Tips that may help.

Re: Question about recent and current molt
I would take loads of photos of the same hermit crab and if I'm lucky, one or two of them will come out crispy clear lol.

Re: Question about recent and current molt
I agree - I've taken hundreds of photos of my crabs and it's always difficult. One thing that does help (if you're taking the pictures through the tank) is to wipe down the tank's sides on the inside and outside regularly with fresh water to get off smears and streaks. If you aren't taking pictures through the tank, good luck - it took me 50 pictures of the crabs to get the one I used for the Crabbytition this month.
