Its been almost 2 weeks not and all is still good. Although I never see Elmo or Zoe. I can tell they are moving around because there are little sand mounds all over the place where they have been digging. I poor 2 year old (who we got the crabs for) never gets to see them. I'm hoping they will get more comfortable soon and start coming out to see us :(

They'll probably molt when they're dug under, which, unfortunately, means more time dug under. The best thing to do right now is leave them alone, but keep food and water in the tank. They will get more used to you, and this is a great way to start teaching your daughter (I think it was a girl, but I'm not sure, so please forgive me if I'm wrong!) about the importance of treating animals the right way. And maybe you can explain to her that crabs don't grow like humans do, and that they have to hid for a little while and then they'll come out even bigger than before! It might work...I don't know, I don't have any kids of my own.

There is a good chance, with the sand mounds all over the place, that they are coming out at night.
You can smooth out the sand before bed, especially near the water or food dishes, and you can check for crab footprints in the morning. That might be a fun thing for your two year old to see, too, although I think two may be a little young to appreciate footprints over crabs! lol.
