As some of y'all may already know, my hermit crabs were adopted a while back. Now I miss them more than ever. I miss being able to get up in the mornings and play with them and hear them scampering all through their cage all night in my bedroom. I miss their fluttering antennas and moving, inquisitive, trusting eyes.
I miss the pinches, scratches, chirps and clicks. The surprise molts and misbehaving crabbies. O, man! Don't y'all ever get rid of your crabs or you will regret it! But it was for their good. They're happier now at their new home than I could ever make them at mine. They have 40 plus gallons to play in with eight other hermies. Professor has his beloved waterfall (at last) LOL and Wiggles is the unchallenged top crab, the king of a tat full of hermies. All the other crabs adore him, and Sandy has a few buddies and all the food she can eat!
Professor, Wiggles, and Sandy have had 4 molts in captivity now.
Anyhow, I'll stop talking about them before I talk myself into getting more.
Help! I've got the crustacean fever!

Did getting rid of the crabs help get your allergies under control? Just wondering how that is all working out for you.
It's nice that you keep visiting and posting, we can really tell how much you very much care for your crabs (that are now in their new home) and that I'm sure some day, if possible, you'll probably end up getting more.
It's great to hear they are doing so well too.

Well, no it really didn't help at all. The main reason they were adopted was because I would be starting up 11th grade this fall and then hopefully going to college in the near future. I wasn't giving them daily care or anything like that. I'd wait until late at night last thing before going to bed to feed or water them and that was just so not good. LOL So I figured it'd be best for the hermies if I didn't keep them anymore. Now my main problem is how to get rid of my crustacean fever.

Ahhh. So you made the responsible decision (probably with some influence from the parents? )to give them to a good home.
Maybe, when you are done with school, and get yourself settled in somewhere with a job and your own place, you'll decide to get more and will take better care of them. Hey, at least you were taking care of them even if it was late at night, you weren't leaving them unattended for days out of laziness. That speaks to your sense of responsibility, which bodes well for the future!
Good luck HR, maybe thinking about getting some in the future when things settle down in your life will help you with that fever you have now.

Re: Help! I've got the crustacean fever!
I feel the same way, I got rid of mine a few months ago and am going crazy the corner that the tank use to sit in by the couch seems so empty now. I just dumped out the sand and washed out the tank and it is just so bare in the place where the tank use to sit. I am glad they are in a good home where wizkidsmom is caring for them and sending me pictures to my email once in a while. With everything going on with my life it was better for them cause I couldn't count on my kids to care for them and they would forget to feed them a few times so I know that it was better for them to be adopted out. I may get more in the future but I am waiting till I find a job, move out and get settled into my new life as a single mom. I wanted to chime in and say I have crustacean fever too. Have a good day everyone and for those of you with crabs please take good care of them and if you can no longer care for them make sure you find them a good home they deserve the best after being snatched from their natural environment. Everytime I go into a petstore I still look at stuff I could have bought for them and I always go see the poor crabbies in the tanks and see how unhappy they are just wanting a new home where they have the proper tank conditions and good food and water they need.
Proud mommy of 2 beautiful daughters Kytana and Danica, 1 cat Princess and 1 dog Liebschen
Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl
