What music does your hermies respond best to?

Post by thrasher720 »

I've found my that my larger hermit NuroThorVIII (thor for short) seems to like anything with a great rythem to it. At first i suspected he was a fan of distorted guitars(like me) but after going through different peoples play lists he seems to enjoy most fast paced songs normally the kind you'd get stuck in your head.

Such as Songs by Mudvayne(metal band)
And another certain song "Remember the name"(R and B?) that we both heard for the first time today.

How about your hermies?

Can't say that my crabs have ever responded to songs. I did have one who tried to climb out of his tank after the computer screensaver (it was going through my pictures) did a bunch in a row with a lot of green in the shot (lawns, oceanside views, etc.) I don't know if it just happened to occur at the same time, or if there was a connection as they aren't in that room anymore. If anything, my crabs dislike music/loud noises/lots of people in the house. They're by the dining room (only place they can go for a while) so they kind of get the traffic.

I have no way of knowing if my hermies may like music, but I do like to listen to Mozart (or other classical) while cleaning their tank. It's calming and peaceful, and really helps the work go easier.
I also know they've done studies with classical music and houseplants, and those exposed to classical as opposed to say, hard rock or metal, grew much better and healthier.
So why not for crabs! :)

I heard that hermit crabs can't actually "hear" sounds, but they are very sensitive to vibrations.

Sounds interesting, let us know what you figure out!

Also, music IS vibrations, so don't rule that out either! :)

Hermies do not have ears, and hence cannot hear but they are super ultra sensitive to vibrations.
