Miracle Grow Potting Soil....

Post by Chermo »

I was wondering we will be doing a fruit/veggie garden this year and also planting flowers in our garden and I use miracle grow potting soil, is it safe to feed the hermit crabs the fruit/veggies and flowers that we plant using the miracle grow potting soil? I ask because I of course want them to be safe but we won't be buying any fruits/veggies that we grow from the stores anymore making them cheaper and I believe better for my family. I will not use pesticides just the miracle grow soil.

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

It is strongly recommended not to use miracle grow or any plant foods on plants grown for hermies. (due to chemicals they contain)

Marie - are you talking about the potting soil? She's not talking about the sprays (so far as I can tell) but the dirt. If one grows something in miracle grow soil but never uses sprays on it, is that safe?

The plants are still absorbing the chemicals through their roots. :)

I was talking about the soil not the sprays, but I guess I asked because I believe all miracle grow is is plant food. If I can't use it that is fine, I will probably start a worm farm or something and get my plants growing in that instead since it is all natural.

Chermo,
it is plant food, but it is a chemical plant food, not one made from natural sources.

Our food cannot be listed as organic if chemical fertilizers were used, even if no pesticides were ever used on it. So there must be something to that? I really don't know if the chemicals in a chemical plant food would affect how the plant acts when ingested by the hermies. That is a very interesting tidbit that could be researched. It might be just fine actually, the more I think about it.
I still have no idea actually :|

No, it is recommended no plant foods be used on the plants we feed our hermies due to the chemicals. Miracle Grow itself has plant food within the potting soil too.
