It is hard to add anything to the conversation once Kerie has weighed in, but since this is one of my pet pieves I will just say:

The media promotes certain vitamins and minerals whose benefits have been extensively studied and they label foods containing them to be "nutritious." Think of as many vitamins and minerals as you can. Nearly everyone can come up w/ Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, iron, calcium, folic acid. An apple has none of these in great abundance and yet they are so nutritious that it can be said that "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." An apple contains over 50,000 phytonutrients, some of which have not been named, much less studied. All whole foods contain phytonutrients and are therefore NUTRITIOUS. Potatos are no exception:

I used to love green seedless grapes, but now I eat the red ones (full of bitter seeds) because someone told me that green grapes are too pale to be nutritious. What a sucker I was to blindly believe that! Same thing with iceberg lettuce. It may not have the traditional vitamins as dark leafy greens, but it has amino acids that are great for digestion in humans. I don't believe that iceberg would be okay for crabs because they find arsenic or some dreadful poison in it.

Okay, I'm off my soap-box now. Caaaaalming Doooown.
