Wrong. They never got them to actuall breeding adults.

Well, if you happened to live in the florida keyes and had a habitat as large as a football field, of both beach and ocean, you could probably do it. But then again, that would basically just shielding off a bunch of beach and ocean...not really the avarage "captive" as in a 55+ gallon tank.

By the way, has anyone ever tried to make a mini "beach" for the crabitat? it would look very nice. Here's what I'm thinking about- the biggest tank aquatium you can find, with sand as a substrate, and digging a large hole for the "ocean" and putting something (like a plastic bag) on top and then filling the hole with salt water. It would be quite an interesting project.

Yes a few crabbers have, and they are ocean pools that have filters and all within the ocean pool. A plastic bag would not work though, too easy for a hole to develop. Check out this one awesome picture of a PP:

There are quite a few crabbers who have made ocean pools in their tanks. And kpuddy's:

Those pictures are awesome! I would love to have an "ocean" in my tank but it would turn into a huge mess knowing my luck.

I have an mini ocean in my tat, I used a deep pyrex dish and used gravel to level it off to the sand. It works real well and the crabbies love it, I have a graduation in the gravel so all sizes can enjoy it and I used some larger pebbles to make sure that my little bitty Lady Penelope could even make it in and out. By using the pyrex dish instead of just making it in the end of the tank, I don't have to worry about any kind of filter as I can just take the entire dish out to clean, and replace the water. It gets quite sandy quite quickly and is quite alot of salt water to have to replace at least every other day, but just seeing one of my Hermies swimming makes it well well well worth it.

I tried to add a picture, but it was too big, did manage to get one on the gallery though in the 41-50gl section, although my tank is a 55 - (? - don't ask me?). I will try to get some more pics on here soon as nearly everybody is in the main tank now and I would love to know what y'all think.
