Stella grew back her big claw

Post by krabby_katie »

Stella came up yesterday. She has her big claw back, at half the size though. Anyway, her claw is red. :S I thought it was supposed to be purple, considering she's a PP. Anyone know if the purple will eventually turn up? Her and her claw are a very bright red burgandy color. It puzzled me when I saw it. Happy she has a big claw now though! :D

Wowwwww!!! You got the pic on here!! That is sooo great... :)

I'll repeat what i said in my PM to you here in case anybody is wondering about what you asked.

AK was missing two legs on one side, which she regrew in her last molt. (You could see the new legs, all white and curled up, inside the gel limbs, joints and all.) When she molted she regrew them; they're c. 3/4 the size of the original legs (the biggest leg they have is one of them and that one looks a little smaller than 3/4) and they're bright orange/red, as you described. She should regrow them fully in her next molt.

As to what color they'll be THEN I don't know.

How neat to see a PP who doesn't have the standard "purple' pincher after all... hehehe...

Congrats again!!

Don't worry about the colour of the regenerated legs. They're likely to turn purple once they're fully grown again.

Okay, cool. It's so weird to see her without a purple claw. :S

Wonder what makes the new limbs that color? Carotene? AK's two "new" legs are also bright. It's less noticable b/c she's a reddish-orange crab anyway. It WOULD be weird to have a "purple pincher" w/o the "purple." :)

Luck and health to the others as always...

P.S. Stella got one of Claude's claws when she grew hers back...

Yeah. :) Poor Claude. I was really attached to him, even though I never saw him. :P

At least Claude's story captivated SOMEBODY. :) He was.... pretty damn amazing for a hermit crab. Or any living thing. Plus really cute. Bright eyes, pearly white shell, so active. I'm glad I got to give him an extra 5 months of life and that he didn't have to die of starvation b/c I couldn't figure out what to do.

I'm so glad Stella came out OK! My grandma's name. I don't get to hear it much anymore. It makes me feel better about Claude to hear that somebody grew back a lost claw. A lot better. There's a lot of grief w/ Claude. Tho I don't spend any time thinking, "What could I have done differently?"

Today I lost 3 of them. And found them all again. *whew* Alma, Ike, and Fay. Crab-mama drama.

It was so nice to see Stella's pic (when I finally realized you had a POST on here about her)... and think of Claude... b/c Stella made it thru.

We have clawless wonder-crabs in common. :)

I notice you have a gecko. I had an iguana for a while. PM? Don't know much about geckos..
