Proper use of StressCoat

Post by Wai »

You've probably all heard of the valuable StressCoat, a very useful substance for hermit crabs. It was actually intended for fish, but us crabbers have learnt that it also works well on hermit crabs. It helps calm down stressed crabs, help repair damaged tissues and coat the abdomen to help prevent it from drying out. But please realise, StressCoat cannot act as a substitute for any subscribed medication. Also, using it excessively or incorrectly can harm (or possibly kill) your hermit crabs.

You should only use StressCoat for baths, NEVER in your crabs' daily drinking water. One or two drops in a large container is enough, don't think about pouring the whole bottle in!

Also, after bathing your crab in stress coat, please drain the shell, hermies keep shell water in there and it swaps out stress coat and their drinking water. (Just tip the crab on it's side and excess water will drain out.) Stress Coat is not safe for hermit crabs because it really is intended for fish, not hermie crabs. (It will also gunk up their water dishes ;) ) So Don't use it in their drinking water. Also, DON'T EVER use ANY kind of medication for hermit crabs, whether it was meant for fish or any other kind of animal. They are dangerous for hermit crabs. Some people have used pet meds on their sick hermies before and it didn't help. It even helped them die, when they could have survived. So please don't put Stress Coat in drinking water or use and medications for hermit crabs.

Apparently StressCoat is no good for hermit crabs, so I'll have to de-sticky this.

I"M AN AUSSIE NOW!

And also, I think you can use stress coat for bathing, most people bathe maybe once a month or as needed, and they should only bathe with stress coat on new crabs.
