Moulting but not growing

Post by MrKrabs »

Hi, my son and I have 4 hermit crabs. We have been successful at taking care of them for the most part. However, we have a medium sized hermit crab that has moulted 5 times, but he seems to be getting smaller.

He is not get ting smaller because of no food or water, because we always make sure that it is taken care of. The cage does not get too dirty, and we use coconut and sand for bedding.

We are stumped as to why he hasn't grown.

The other crab that is about the same size has grown considerably.

Is it because of his species? Sharing the tank with 3 others? Or just taking his time to grow (?)

If someone out there has experienced this and the cause, or what to do, we would appreciate it very much. He seems to be healthy otherwise.

Just don't pay so much attention to this, give him good calcium(cuttlebone eggshells etc) sprinkle it over food. make sure your water bowls are filled. Remember, there is nothing you can do to make him grow. Just leave him how he is.

Have you been feeding him meat? Protein is essential for growth.
