I am all for encouraging retailers not to sell these little guys for souvenirs and trinkets.

I would encourage you to re-word the letter into your own words, using the original as little as possible, but by making the same points perhaps, and even adding some of your own. The more people who take time to really write a letter instead of just sending their prewritten one will make more of a difference.
