sad story
one day i came home from school and i decided to look and see what my hermit crab was up too. i went in and moose fell off a rock from me startling him. then i turned to spike(my brother named him) and he was in the exact same spot he had been for three days!! i picked him up and he didnt move. i picked up the spray bottle and sprayed him, usually he would come out of his shell, but he didnt. thats when i reallized he was dead then in put him in my emergency criter keeper. the next day or two i barried him next to pookie and now i have only one crab *sniff**sniff*

Re: sad story
How long did you have Spike? Also, spraying a crab when you pick it up isn't generally an encouraged thing to do...even if you do think he/she is dead. It's very stressing for the crab and doesn't foster trust between them and you.
However, I'm very sorry for your loss. Losing a crab is a very sad thing, and it should always become a learning process as to what you can do better next time to try to prevent the death.

Re: sad story
Okay, this is probably too late already, but hermit crabs don't always come out of their shells if they are sprayed with water. I'm guessing that you didn't try pulling Spike out of his shell to be sure? You may have buried him alive.
