I'm sorry I wasn't a little more clear. A spray will dampen the top layer of the substrate. By using a dropper, or using the drop system the water will sink down and around where the hermies are buried at. One would want the water to penetrate the substrate and keep the top layers damp as well as going a little lower too. The top seems to dry faster than underneath does.
