I thought I might bump this thread - bump!!!
I have just found a good cheap source for shells, I am not sure if they would post interstate however. www.wahermitcrabs.com.au
They sell crabs too but I am not sure about some of the advice on thier website. Seems a bit dated to me.
I brought my moss on ebay like you did Wai.
cheers Jennie

Re: Supplies for Aussies Thread
I've got loads of shells already, but my hermit crabs only seem to want to wear Phasianella (pheasant) shells...

Re: Supplies for Aussies Thread
my crabs like Phasianella shells but not as much as these ones which look like snail shells (the whale eye shells are similar but not the same.) They have never been offered the polished turbos before so I thought I would give them a go! Where do you get your shells from?
oh and they do post interstate - I asked

Hi Nat!!
Didn't know you were here too! Do you know what those snail shells are called? I sent you a few of them. I am useless at shell names - I confess I google imaged the phasianella ones so I knew which ones Wai was talking about! We will have to do another swap some time, some of your beach shells for some of those snail ones maybe, or whatever else I can find which you like I am getting some of those crab chews, I will let you know if the crabs actually like them!
cheers Jen

Re: Supplies for Aussies Thread
Jennie, why don't you post some photos for us to see? Whale's eye shells are part of the moon snail family. I have loads of whale's eye shells, but my hermit crabs don't seem to like them at all. Nat, I'm willing to trade my other shells for more pheasant shells - especially big ones. Let me know if any of you are interested.

Re: Supplies for Aussies Thread
haven't got a good pic already online but there is one between the rock bowl and the phasianella shell on the right of this pic.

boat is in one too
http://s1086.photobucket.com/albums/j44 ... crab11.jpg
They are whitish sometimes with brown stripes. My crabs love them, they are definately the most popular of the shells in my 'tat.
cheers
Jennie
if you can't recognise them from these pics I will take some more!

Re: Supplies for Aussies Thread
Those shell links are great thankyou! I need to get some more shells to!
Just wanted to post this link for anyone in Brissie who may be looking for good substrate sand http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/cata ... rodID=5149
They were really nice and I think delivery for $7.50 for any size weight or quantity is great! I dont know if thats all of Australia or not but I am guessing so!
