When to Dig Up a Moulter

Post by charcoal44 »

One of my crabs (the smallest, about the size of a 10 cent piece) has been down now just over 3 weeks.

He's under about 7 cm (3 inches) of substrate, and I can see him through the front of the tank, if I move my finger in front of him he moves, I'm getting worried he might not be able to get back to the surface, should he have finished his moult by now? should I dig him up or just continue waiting?

EDIT:
Looks like hes coming up, he's just below the surface now :D

EDIT:
He's out :D

You should never dig up a crab unless it's for an emergency, such as a flood, the crab left it's shell, or a bacterial bloom near the molter.

Great to hear that he made it up safely!
