Substrate for Molters

Post by aries »

Quick question about substrate in iso. I have a jumbo that I think is getting ready to molt. I want to iso her but I don't quite know what to do with the substrate, it is playsand. Should I wet it or leave it dry and let the crabs wet it themselves? I am afraid if I wet it I may get a mold problem in the tank.

If you add in some aquarium salt (the salt you use for the salt water dish) to the water, it will help prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.

Never thought about putting salt in it but that makes great sense.

I will add some water and salt and see what happens. I know they need the moisture to help with molting and wanted to make sure of what to do for them especially when the jumbos get ready to go down.

Thanks
