Seems the gnats here use to not only come in for fruits and such, but at night when we have/had the windows open for some nice fresh air the lamp/lights seemed to draw them in too. There is just something about insects in the home. (not meaning our hermies) ;)
If you have the empty bottles to put around, cut the top off where it begins to straighten out. Once the vinegar and sugar are in the bottle, place the cut lid inside the bottle upside down. This makes for a larger hole and when they fly down into it, the end up drowning because they cannot find their way out again. The larger hole makes it easier for them to get in, as well as the odor of the vinegar. It might take a couple of days, but they will find it and go into it.
