moving in together
Ok I have four crabs but I want to get a bigger tank than my tiny ten gallon. i want a twenty nine gallon and get a few more crabbys but the question is, would it be okay just to move all of the crabs in at once into the new tank? old and new hermies?

Re: moving in together
Hermit crabs are social pets so I guess it couldn't hurt. But I wouldn't take my advice too fast because I don't have any yet so they may fight and they may not. It depends on the hermit crabs you have. Like I said dony take my afvice too quick because I don't have any.

Re: moving in together
Learn from my mistake! Don't put new crabs in a new tank with deep substrate or you may wait for them to destress for weeks under it all! I haven't seen the majority of my crabs in many weeks.

Re: moving in together
As blondy627 has mentioned there is an iso PPS tank that should be set up for new hermies. By less substrate it helps them to adjust better and increase their survival rate.
But once the iso'ed PPS period is over, all the hermies should be bathed together so they smell the same to cut back on any aggressive territorial behaviors. If you do not bath your hermies, one can give the newer hermies a dip in the fresh water pond before changing it out for clean water so they all smell the same. (after the newbies iso'ed time period)
