I understand. Little story:
A few years ago we went down to Georgia where our son was stationed in the Army. He had a vacation so we all stayed in an apartment type home for a week with his second wife and children.
They knew we had hermies here at home so when the kids went down to the beach (Jekyll Island) they found some marine hermies and put them in a bucket with sand and some water. They had done this that morning and we arrived that night. They were excited about what they had done but I did explain how important it was that we returned them home and why. They were upset with the thought of the 3 little hermies passing and were more than happy when we walked down to the beach to return them home. Children and many adults are not aware how sensitive the transition is for marine hermies. Most of our land hermies also have to go through a transition period and then hold breaths that they make it through the PPS period.
It was an accident what the neighbors did, and it sounds like that mistake won't be made again like with our son's wifes children.
Sympathies,
Marie (aka ladybug15057)

They do look rather creepy though. They're not as cute and cuddly as their land counterparts.

At least you tried. So many people bring hermies home, don't try, and they die. You actually gave it a try, it just didn't work:(
5 pps:
Lily, Scarlet, Houdini, KK, and my baby, Sprite.
I am saving up for a larger tank and blueberries.
Have had hermit crabs since April 2009
