my crabs...?
I Know that the pet stores have no idea what their dealing with when it comes to crabs, but when I got my current four on the receipt it said three "normal crabs" and one "fancy crab" I will take a pic and show it to you later but what kind of crab is it? and what are my others?

Usually "fancy" crab means it has a painted shell.

Re: my crabs...?
True about the fancy crabs, it can also mean they are in decorative type shells as well, where the normal crabs are in natural type shells. "Fancy" = more $$ for the hermie to usually change out of the unsightly shell ASAP when we get them home and offer them other shells.

Re: my crabs...?
A fancy crab may also be one that has a polished shell. I've heard that some pet stores charge extra for polished shells.

Re: my crabs...?
Ahh thats probably it. but I couldnt find it on the specise finder, plus I cant upload the darn pic on my computer so I will decribe him/her. He has a deep purple claw, red legs and has oblong eyes when I first got him he was white (from bad housing).

Re: my crabs...?
If his claw is really dark purple he is most likely a purple pincher (Caribbean), but if you can get a pic to show some of the more experienced crabbers here you may get a more accurate identification.

Re: my crabs...?
Without clear close up pictures of the large pincher, left rear walking leg, eyes and eye stalks it is impossible to tell what species the hermie maybe. Describing coloring... this in itself can vary with the same species.
There is a species ID here on HCP, please attempt to use it. Or try the sister sites identifier:
