Next sized shell?

Post by Gail »

My largest PP is in a turbo with a 1" opening, what sizes should I offer him next? Would a 1.5" and 1.75" be too big? I need to order him some soon.

Go for shells in between 1" and 1.25". I think 1.5" and above may be too big.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how much they could grow with a molt.

I know I'm sometimes surprised the size shell they change into. It's probably a mix of a way too small shell in the first place though.

I've tried to get a picture of big guy in his shell but he won't stay pulled in long enough. It looks like his current turbo might actually be a bit big which make me feel better, rather have him in a bigger shell then crammed in a tiny one. I found a nice lot of tapestry turbos on etsy so he'll have a good choice if he decides to move.

I think that you would never know with some of them! My Sal was in a shell that looked the perfect size on him, but he's moved up to one that is so big you can only see the tip of his claw when he retracts!

To answer you question directly, I am agreeing with Wai. I think that between 1-1.25 would be better than the .50/75, but I guess it's always better to get shells too-big than too-small. They will keep growing :)

One of my little PP's is in a shell so big he almost disappears when he retracts. He is really, really shy, so I don't even know how tiny he actually is. I bought some smaller shells and he won't even look at them, guess he is comfy in his big house.

Gail - one of my PPs does that too. I have one who is a chronic shell-changer and always picks shells that are almost too small and the other rarely changes/shops for shells and picks ones at least 1/2" too big for him. Go figure.
