I can't find the right size shell

Post by bentley357 »

I need a shell with an opening that is 2 inch but I can't find one in stores or online. Any suggestions on where to look?

Circular or elliptical openings?

A shell with a two inch mouth is massive... why do you want a shell that big for?

I'm pretty sure you measured incorrectly. I'm not sure if even Carol's Jon and Kate wear shells that big!

So you're after turbos? There are plenty online.

I'm confused on how to measure the shell. I read online but I don't get it.

Notice when your crab pulls into it's shell, it's large pincer generally goes across the mouth of the opening.
Measure the shell opening across that direction.
Or you can measure the size of his big pincher, and get him a shell with an opening just a little bit bigger. Does that help?

I've been looking online and I measured the shell and it is about 3 cm or 30 mm. I have only found one website with measurements in mm and I don't know the fraction of that because all of the sites have sizes in fractions.

Wai use to have a "Tools" section to help with this but I have looked for it and it appears to be MIA? But 30 millimeter = 1.181 inches. So anywhere from about an inch preferrably 1.25 inch. Due to your measurement, I assume you are either from Canada or Aus.? (It is not in your info)

There are quite a few online stores that sell shells for much less than what we find them in the pet stores for. And many times the ones in the pet stores are not appropriate for our hermies. Just be a little selective as to which store you order from not all are reputable. Here is a link to some online stores. This is a link that shows a picture with an explanation as how to measure shells for ordering.
