How do I measure?

I know that I need to measure the opening of my hermies shell but I can't keep him inside of his shell while I am measureing. I don't wan't to force him in his shell because that can hert him and stress him out but if I don't measure the opening then I won't know what shells to buy! I have had him and a nother crab for two days but haven't been able to buy shells because of this problem.

I just estimate half of the time. You don't have to measure it really. You can just guess. It works for me most of the time. Or you could get the Shell Caliper thingy from thecrabbagepatch.com . I have that now, so I don't have to estimate.

find an empty shell thats the closet to his, and measure it. then do your calculations when you buy them

I don't measure, just eyeball it. you need shells smaller, the crabs current size, and bigger.

Yeah guestimating is the best way to go in that situation, simply because measuring is so difficult! Hermies want to have fun lol.
