calcium grit?

I was at giant eagle today in the pet section (looking for things for my crabbies of course) and stummbled across a bird product called ''calcium grit''. I read the ingreadiants, and in contained cuttlebone and oyster shell 2 things I know are safe but there were some other things in it as well. I can't remember what else was in it, but does anyone know more about it?

I don't know much about it myself. It is meant for birds for their gizzards to help them digest the seeds and such that they eat.
Were you thinking of it as a food supplement for your hermies? With the concern about crushed oyster shell and other crushed hard bits getting into hermie shells, Ithink I would steer away from this even as a food supplement, as some could be pulled out of the food dish and end up hurting a hermie.

It would be cheaper and safer to purchase a piece of broken cuttlebone at your local pet store, and either put some large chunks in the tank for the hermies to munch on (I do this, and they do enjoy it) or crush some up to sprinkle on their food on occasion. Or both, so they can eat it whenever they want.

I was thinking of it as a calcium source even though I use cuttlebone in chunks. You know us crabbers always out and about looking for new crabbie things lol! But thanks for your help though CrabbyJo!

Dunno about calcium grit myself, but if it is like crushed oyster shells I would grind it into a powder.

not quite it is the same consistancy as...well catliitter and kina looks like it lol so i think im gonna stick with cuttlebone and leftover crabby exos. but if you got to google imagez and type calcium grit it will show jars of it

Egg shells boiled in dechlor water works as a good calcium source too. Most just throw those away anyhow.

I also use that too! They usually don't eat that as much but all well there choice! (not like we like everything either) anyway random thing I ordered a crabby cook book from the addiction store and its awsome! I just made something from it now and the crabbies just love it, I made the "oatmeal plop" .
