Hermit crabs eat various insects in the wild, and birds eat berries that are toxic to mammals. I think that butterflies should be avoided - but that's not to say any reptile fed creature couldn't be fed to a hermit crab? Crickets, wax worms, meal worms, silk worms, snails, fruit flies, fish...I wonder how the fruit flies would turn out. Naturally Crabby says that hermit crabs love snails!

Mine are addicted to mealies, they also love shrimp tails. They have also shown interest in almonds and pecans :D

I am going to get a small can of silk worms for them. Has anybody tried this? I'm sure they like them...about the snails...how big where they? My friend's skink had snails in the food dish but they where like smaller than a pea :S

Ugg, I don't think I could give my crabs anything that wasn't dead...like crickets or worms or that kind of stuff. I don't mind giving them dead dried shrimp or dead dried sardines...but anything more than that and I don't think I could do it. XD

Still - the baby shrimps I have look a lot like bugs...and if one falls out of the dish or has been moved...ugh, I freak out, thinking that the thing is a bug! (I had a cockroach in my 'tat once upon a time - it came in through the window and hopped on in, thinking it had found the perfect place to live! Needless to say, I thought otherwise, and had to chase it around the tank for a while.)

Question erikleeson about the mealies. What is the can that they are cooked in? Aluminum, tin..?
I went to Petco this week and could not find any of the Exo Terra products in a can.

If you still have the can, does a magnet stick to it if you have one? I have researched and researched this product and no where do I see where they are organic either... yes it says farm raised, but not a word about organic.
