Re: fresh moss ?
I would wait for Marie or someone with more experience with crabbing for sure on this, but my take on it is not to. For one, it's not the same kind of mosses that we use with our crabs. Second, you don't know what kinds of bugs or that sort of thing is in there. You also don't know what kinds of pesticides are in it. Finally, some kinds of moss are poisonous and shouldn't be eaten by your crabs. The kind of moss we use in our tanks isn't alive anymore, and honestly hasn't been for a while.

Re: fresh moss ?
Emma is correct... and one MUST know the exact species of moss that they have. There are hundreds so it is very hard to determine... even if you would take it to an agricultural type place to try to find out what exact species it is. Even then they may not be able to determine whether pesticides have ever been used on or around it.

Re: fresh moss ?
Check a local reptile store for live moss. I've gotten in around here and it resembles a "mound". You'd need to put some water on it daily and it needs natural light. It won't last very long in the tank though as the crabs will eat it.
